PUBLICITY E-POSTERThis is the first time I've helped Home-Start York with the charity concert at York Minster. An event that celebrates the choral talent from local schools in and around York. First job was to design a poster which could be emailed to all the parents of children at local schools. I liaised with David Miller, one of the amazing Trustees at Home-Start York, and came up with a design that featured the Minster along with a Home-Start brand images. I also included link buttons at the bottom of the poster for more information on the event and how to get tickets. The image of the 2 boys has been selected by Home-Start York from a library of brand images to feature prominently throughout their communications. DESIGNING THE SOUVENIR PROGRAMMEThe concert programme uses the Home-Start national brand guidelines as a starting point for its design - this was deemed an important thing to do with it being an opportunity to promote the charity and raise awareness of the good work its volunteers do in the York area. The national brand guidelines have a bright, colourful and informal style that can be adapted easily to different publications. After a few revisions we agreed the design and layout and I set about putting it together. The programmes were printed by Inc-Dot, a local family firm who were delighted to have the opportunity to get involved and were kind enough to print the 300 programmes at a discounted rate.
I've added some photos of the brochure below, plus a link to a PDF which has been exported in interactive mode so that all email and web links are active - ideal for email distribution.

Steve Brewer, business owner at Text Mining Solutions, based at The Science Park York has commissioned me to produce marketing material including a website, brochures, leaflets and a video.
The video was used throughout TMS's social media channels to promote the business nationally and internationally. I was asked to put together a short video that could run on a continuous loop at a conference/exhibition stand. The client agreed to an approach where I would create slides in a program called Keynote which is similar to, but in my opinion better than Powerpoint. Once I'd put the slides together, I added some simple transitions and then exported that as a Quicktime movie.
Obviously I enjoy running my own business as well as being a graphic designer, I get to meet all sorts of interesting people and work on a wide range of creative projects. Besides paid work I like to help any community based projects that I can get involved with, which I do on a voluntary basis.
Since moving to York in 2011 I've helped amateur theatre groups, local charities and an aspiring author, including New Earswick Musicals, Valley Arts, Refugee Action York, Bootham Junior School and Lisa-Marie Performing Arts. Recently I put a website together for Sue Jefferson which I think is particularly relevant for this special day. The site is at www.boardroomreadywomen.com There are actions women can take at every level in an organisation to develop themselves to be exceptional leaders; in parallel understand their human needs and consciously take relevant actions to thrive in both career as well as loving life outside. Sue has had plenty of experience working at Boardroom level and has also written an excellent book on the subject available through Amazon. It was a really interesting project to work on and as such I also helped her with a website for another of her businesses Possibilities Realised. I seem to remember going along to a talk about this at The Ron Cooke Hub, given by my son's school Bootham, amongst others. The slides they used all seemed a bit ropey, whereas the talk itself was very interesting, and so I volunteered to refresh the presentation. Not amazing but significantly better than what they had before I can assure you. A few of the slides which I put together and set to music, enough to give you a sense of the style and tone. Basically it was shown in a large auditorium as new students gathered to hear about university life. It gave them something to look at until everyone had arrived. The message was 'Have fun - but don't forget you are here to work too'. You can watch the video on YouTube.

Established in 2000 by a merger of Glaxo Wellcome and SmithKline Beecham, GSK is the world's sixth largest pharmaceutical company. I have provided GSK with design services since 2001. I've worked on quarterly newsletters for all employees, trustee reports that go out to all staff and pensioners once a year, websites, powerpoint presentations, posters, exhibition stands, pension plan booklets and a range of literature providing information on the GSK Employee Reward programme.
